About Typewriter Tarot
Typewriter Tarot is a collective of practiced Tarot readers based in Austin and Houston, Texas. We offer private readings in person or remotely (via FaceTime or Skype), as well as readings for couples, readings for events, parties, pop-ups, openings, or any gathering.
We follow up our private readings by mailing a written account of the message that arises in your Tarot spread. These missives also include a photo of your "power card," the card from your reading that offers the most inspiration and guidance. You can use this as a talisman, reminder, or focus of meditation as you journey forward.
Why do we do this? A Tarot reading contains a wealth of nuance and complexity. Your first reading will be exciting, rich with information, and brimming with insight. Each reading delves into various facets of your past, present, and future. You're likely to come away from the experience wanting to review the entire conversation, which is why we create an artful record of your Tarot story for you to keep.
Our readings are not predictive, but centered on the premise that you can create for yourself a fulfilling, peaceful, meaningful life. We use Tarot in a therapeutic context, probing patterns, relational dynamics, aspirations, and approaches for moving forward. Our readings can not fix clients' problems (you can do this!), but they do offer direction, clarity, and possibility.
The Typewriter Tarot Collective
Cecily Sailer is the founder of Typewriter Tarot, a freelance writer and writing coach, and programs director for The Library Foundation in Austin. Growing up an only child in a quiet home, she fell in love at an early age with ghost stories, hidden realities, and anything mysterious and inexplicable. In 2016, she said goodbye to alcohol, discovered an amazing therapist, and turned her attention to questions of healing. Not long after, she crossed paths with Tarot again, seeing it in a new light, and realizing its power as a tool for self-examination, guidance, and connection. She created Typewriter Tarot to help talented Tarot readers connect with clients, and to offer seekers the insight and guidance they crave.
Claire Bowman was born and raised in Missouri. Brought up in a family of artists and musicians, creativity has been a lifelong aspiration, manifesting in the forms of music, painting, and writing. Claire is the author of the chapbook Dear Creatures, and her poetry can be found in Smoking Glue Gun Magazine, PANK, The Volta, Narrative Magazine, and elsewhere. She says of the Tarot, "Reading a spread reminds me of reading a poem—making associations between a few bright images to connect them into something resembling a story that helps us see ourselves more clearly."
Lucy Diggons is an urban witch and book worm, and the Houston arm of Typewriter Tarot. As a teenager, Lucy became enthralled with Tarot, palmistry, and life's mysteries. After taking a long hiatus traveling, exploring life in more than ten states, working a variety of jobs ranging from photographer's assistant to training doctors for the VA, Lucy has come full circle to embrace the mystic and the power of Tarot once again. You can find her offering readings in Houston bars and coffee shops, and she's likely to elicit a few tears of recognition, validation, and emotional aha!
Fatima lived in South Africa, Australia, and the UK before moving to Texas to study at the Michener Center for Writers. She is currently at work on her first novel. She learned Tarot through studying the history of magic and folklore for her writing, and in making work about the life of Pamela Colman-Smith, the artist behind the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. She believes the cards work best not magically or psychically, but rather by allowing you to look at a question in your life through a many-faceted lens: each card representing a symbol or concept that can guide you towards clarity, understanding, and greater knowledge. In a good Tarot reading, you should come away knowing better how to proceed, more intimately understanding the secrets of your own heart — allowing yourself to better be the master of your own destiny.
