Fool Hearty: an Arts Pop-Up Exploring the Human Experience through Tarot
Episode 3 features The Sun!

At the end of our last Fool Hearty event, we called one of our guests to the stage to pull a card for our next gathering — as we do every time — and the card that came up was The Sun!
It’s been magical to see how each of these pulls at the end of the show prophetically guide us to prepare the next episode. In March of 2025, we pulled the Wheel of Fortune for our fall show — which would become our collective card for 2026 (cuz 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, the Wheel of Fortune’s number).
Then came The Sun, another card for 2026, as The Sun’s number (19), when added up (1 + 9), also equals 10.
This year has proven to be very Wheel of Fortune — dense with change and more shocking, tumultuous, and traumatic than the last few wild years — with ICE raids, wars, and yet more record-breaking global heat.
But The Sun is here to remind us that life is nothing without joy.
And joy, at some point, must be part of our collective response to the changes we fear.
In a literal sense, the sun defines and fuels the cycle of life here on earth. We can count on the sun rising again each day after the darkness of night. The sun and our orbit around it defines and shapes our experience of the seasons. And it’s Earth’s perfect placement in the solar system that allows us to enjoy the sun’s heat and the life it generates.
More symbolically and archetypally, The Sun represents the individual identity, the light that radiates from each of us when we connect with life from a place of curiosity and delight.
The Sun is a card of rebirth, helping us reconnect with childlike parts of ourselves after too much time adulting, laboring, worrying, and shouldering so many of life’s responsibilities.
So, in this episode of Fool Hearty, we’re bringing you a show that will light up your heart, renew your hope, and remind you that joy, play, silliness, and delight are fundamental ingredients for a rich and meaningful life!

Becky Bullard, creator of Democrasexy, will share her story of how she came to lead a pro-democracy, civic-engagement initiative rooted in joy & pleasure.
Y’all We Asian will call us into the spirit of spontaneity & laughter with a crowd-sourced improv performance.
Members of the Huston-Tillotson University choir will perform songs to lift our spirits & invoke the radiant energy of the sun.
Crowd favorite — artist, illustrator & animator Ami Plasse will sketch the entire event & reveal his work at the end of the show — in animation form.
We’ll guide you in a fun, easy art activity to help us all spread more joy and beauty across this fair city.
Plus, a fun game show — where contestants guess which childhood photo belongs to which audience member — with prizes!
Guests are invited (but not required) to:
Dress in the spirit of The Sun — think oranges, yellows, and reds; fun and playful clothing; accessories that radiate and bling!
Add a small item to our Sun altar — something that makes you smile and brings you joy!
Send us a photo of you from childhood, so we can all see ourselves as we once were (and include select images for the game show)! Email your image to cecily@typewritertarot.com.
Pay-what-you-can Tickets: $15 / $25 / $35
Young folks 12 and older are welcome, but the contents of this show are approximately PG13.
The show is not specifically designed with teens in mind.
