At the end of our last Fool Hearty event, one audience member came on stage to pull a card for our next gathering — and the card that merged was The Sun, which is here to remind us that life is nothing without joy, we can always begin again, and we’re never too old for a little frolic.
The Sun represents the individual identity, the light that radiates from each of us when we connect with life from a place of curiosity and delight.
The Sun is a card of rebirth, helping us reconnect with childlike parts of ourselves after too much time adulting, laboring, worrying, and shouldering so many of life’s responsibilities.
In this “episode” of Fool Hearty, we’re staging a show that will light up your heart, renew your hope, and remind you that joy, play, and delight are fundamental ingredients for a rich and meaningful life!
🌞 FEATURING 🌞
Becky Bullard, creator of Democrasexy, who will share her story of how she came to lead a pro-democracy, civic-engagement initiative rooted in joy and pleasure.
Y’all We Asian will launch us into the spirit of spontaneity and laughter with a crowd-sourced improv performance.
Members of the Huston-Tillotson University choir will perform songs to lift our spirits and invoke the radiant energy of the sun.
Artist, illustrator, and animator Ami Plasse will live-sketch the entire event and reveal his work at the end of the show as an animation, so you can see his art come to life.
We’ll guide you in a fun, easy art activity to help us spread more joy and beauty far and wide.
Plus, poetry, sunny outfits, and childhood photos!
Guests are invited (but not required) to:
Dress in the spirit of The Sun — oranges, yellows, and reds; fun and playful clothing; accessories that radiate and bling!
Add a small item to our Sun altar — something that makes you smile and brings you joy!
Bring or a photo of you from childhood, so we can see ourselves as we were way back when.
Pay-what-you-can Tickets: $15 / $25 / $35
Young folks 12 and older are welcome, but the contents of this show are approximately PG13.
The show is not specifically designed with teens in mind.
